abstract = "This paper introduces a new image enhancement technique derived
from histogram hyperbolization. The original method of histogram
hyperbolization was based on a simple logarithmic modelo f the
nonlinear characteristic of the human visual system. By using a
different model, we derived a new method introduced here, called
quadratic hyperbolization. Examples are provided demonstrating
that satellite and side-scan sonar images processed with the
quadratic hyperbolization technique may have greater
intelligibility than when processed with the original histogram
hyperbolization technique.",
